Robert J. Altier PTSS Instructor Robert J. Altier has more than 30 years of experience in firearms as an instructor, a competitive shooter and a police officer. In addition to providing firearms instruction for PTSS, he is an instructor at the Basic Peace Officer Training Academy at Youngstown State University and Kent State University. He also has served as a firearms instructor for the Hubbard City Police Department where he was also a detective/sergeant for 34 years. Altier also has been a competitive shooter for 30-plus years, having competed at the NRA National Police Combat Pistol event in Jackson, Miss, and Ohio Police Combat Pistol Matches. He is a multiple recipient of the Ohio Governors Top Twenty and Top Fifteen Shooters Award and a multiple medal winner of the Ohio and National Law Enforcement Olympics. Altier holds an associate’s degree in Police Science from Youngstown State University. In 1983, he became a certified instructor for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy Basic Police School. His other certifications include: Glock Armorer; NRA Law Enforcement Instructor: Revolver, Shotgun, Pistol; NRA civilian instructor: Revolver, Shotgun, Pistol, Home defense; OPOTA Chemical Agent instructor; OPOTA Distraction Device Instructor; OPOTA Law Enforcement Requalification instructor: Pistol, Revolver, Shotgun, Patrol Rifle; and OPOTA Basic Police Academy, Corrections Academy, Private Security Academy.
