Paterniti Tactical Shooting System
PTSS (Paterniti Tactical Shooting System) specializes in small-arms training for the law-enforcement and civilian markets. We offer instruction in sport, defensive and offensive firearms techniques both in the classroom and on the shooting range. Our objective is to ensure our clients have the tools they need to be well-prepared and proficient users of small arms.  PTSS is authorized by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) to offer instructor-level classes for Ohio police officers in the following areas:  Semi-automatic Pistol Instructor Revolver Instructor Eight-hour Weapon Training and Re-qualifications Seminar.
Robert Paterniti   PTSS was founded in 2000 by Robert Paterniti, the company’s chief executive officer and lead instructor. He is an expert in firearms and firearms instruction, with more than 40 years of experience teaching at universities and formal training academies, including the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. In addition to his PTSS role, he is an instructor at Youngstown State University and Kent State University Basic Police Academy. Paterniti brings to PTSS nine years of experience and expertise as a firearms instructor in Quantico, where he taught students skills and techniques in the use of the Remington 870 Shotgun, HK-MP5, AR-15, Glock and Sig pistols.  He also conducted live-fire demonstration and instruction in combat tactics, flashlight techniques, low-light techniques and marksmanship training to New Agent Trainees, foreign nationals and serving agents. He also has first-hand experience in law enforcement, having served as a patrol officer for 35 years and as city safety director for four years in Hubbard, Ohio, where he resides. In the late 70’s and early 80’s Paterniti had a successful gunsmith business which specialized in custom 1911 style pistols. With a master’s degree in education and 40 years of practical experience in education and law enforcement, Paterniti understands how students learn, approaching firearms instruction with an emphasis on incremental training and reactive-sighted shooting techniques. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in Education from VanderCook College in Chicago.
